The LISphone also enables enterprises to establish a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) for voice and fax communications over the enterprise’s telephone network infrastructure and the PSTN.
The LISphone is installed on analog telephone lines, and includes management software that facilitates the configuration and administration of the system.
All LISphone devices belonging to one group are configured with the same list of telephone numbers or prefixes – the VPN list.
Whenever a LISphone user dials a number that is part of the VPN list – his LISphone will automatically seek to reach the called party in a secure way.
Most important: none of the parties is required to press any button or to perform any other action in order to secure the call.
In this way one does not need to worry about the privacy of his calls; all calls to his members will be seamlessly and transparently secure.
The management software enables the system administrators to configure and maintain the LISphone members list. The system supports up to 100 telephone numbers and prefixes.
The LISphone is a plug and play CPE unit, connected between an analog telephone or fax machine and the wall socket, which provides digital encryption.
Whenever a subscriber places a secured call or fax transmission, his LISphone will first dial to the LIStrunk using a telephone number it is configured with, while “memorizing” the destination number dialed by the subscriber, and a modem session between the LISphone and the LIStrunk will start. Upon every connection between a LISphone and a LIStrunk, regardless to
whom the call was initiated, a modem session is initiated, and after having successfully synchronized, an encryption and key exchange session is established using Diffie-Hellman and 3DES in order to secure the channel.
When a LISphone has called the LIStrunk, it is only then, after an encrypted channel has been created, that the LISphone will transmit the destination number dialed by the subscriber to the LIStrunk, which will result in the LIStrunk making an outbound call – on another channel – to the called party.
The LISphone’s software can be programmed and upgraded factory based, remotely or via a RS232 connection to PC.
The LISphone can be controlled and operated remotely via DTMF. Bi-directional DTMF and signaling bits to the carrier are transferred transparently.
LIStrunk to LISphone
In cases where the destination of the call is a client OUTSIDE of the corporate environment, located anywhere in the Public Switched Telephone Network, the LIStrunk maintains the Security by using LISphone or LIScell unit which encrypts/decrypts the call at the destination location. The system compresses voice to 8 Kbit/sec (G-729A) for LISphone and 6.4/5.3Kbit/sec (G723.1) for LIScell while retaining a high voice quality (toll quality) and uses fax relay for fax transmission. The total call setup time is about 6 to 7sec. While the round trip delay is less than 100msec for LISphone and about 400msec for LIScell due to the GSM network constrains.
